Who we are

Sharing life together. Growing in faith together.

We have grown significantly in number over the last six years, with a lively mix of adults and children. Some of the BVC congregation would not call themselves Christian at present, but still come along on Sundays to belong to our community and find out more about Jesus. For this reason, we aim to make our meetings as accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background and any previous experience of ‘church’.

James Gwyn-Thomas is an ordained minister in the Church of England and has led the church for nearly 6 years with his wife Kirsty, their daughter Phoebe and their son Barnaby.

“BVC is an ecumenical church. It was originally planted from St Andrew’s Church, Leyland back in 2010... This church has taught me a huge amount about what it means to be in a church; living together, sharing together and growing together.”

We Believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives.

We Believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

We Believe that sin has separated each of us from the loving relationship we were made for with God.

We Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, as both God and man, is the only one who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place and rose again. He has proved his victory over sin and death and longs to empower us for life to the full.

We Believe that in order to receive God’s forgiveness we must turn from our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.

We Believe that baptism is a response to God’s love - a desire and a commitment to follow the example of Jesus Christ.

We Believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together for fellowship, prayer and the ‘breaking of bread’.

We Believe that our faith in Jesus should lead us into compassionate action within the local community and the world.

We Believe that our eternal destination is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.

We Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.

Being IN the Community

Aware of the needs of the community

 Known in the community

 Partnered with the community

Caring holistically for people in our community

Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Reaching OUT to the community

 Enable real relationships
Provide regular courses that explore the person of Jesus
Host events that encourage questions, challenges and exploration of the Christian faith

Colossians 4:2-6
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."

Building UP our church family

That we may all see the need to grow in faith
That we may grow in our relationship with God in a variety of ways
That we may grow in every aspect of our lives, at any stage of life

Colossians 1:9-14
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Matthew 28:18-20
"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.' "
